Orchestra Courses

Below are the orchestra courses offered at Southport High School. These courses are taught by

Mr. Thomas Wright.

Beginning Orchestra

Prerequisite: At least 2 years of middle school orchestra or private lessons

Course Description:

All incoming freshmen play in Beginning Orchestra. The class is designed to build upon the skills started in middle school orchestra class. Beginning Orchestra will play four concerts and one ISSMA competition a year. Students will also have the opportunity to play at community events as a service to the school.

Advanced/ Symphonic Orchestra

Prerequisite: Audition or Placement  By Director

Course Description:

This class is the highest level of orchestra playing. The orchestra plays more complex music. The class will preform 5 concerts a year, three to four community events, and participate in two ISSMA competitions each year.

Intermediate Orchestra

Prerequisite: Beginning Orchestra or Recommendation From the Director

Course Description: 

This class will introduce students to more advanced techniques in play their instruments. The music selected for the class is more difficult technically and musically. Intermediate Orchestra will play four concerts, one ISSMA competition, and two community events during the year.
