Choir Courses

Below are the choir courses offered at Southport High School. These courses are taught by

Mrs. Jaclyn Richardson.

Beginning Choir

Prerequisite: None

Course Description:

Beginning Choir is a beginning choral ensemble that performs a varied repertoire of music, ranging from traditional to pop/broadway styles. This group is primarily composed of freshman treble singers. Students in this choir perform at four concerts during the school year and may attend ISSMA Organizational Contest in April. There is no audition required to be in this ensemble.

Boys to Cards

Prerequisite: None

Course Description:

Boys to Cards is an all-male intermediate choral ensemble, composed of 9th-12th grade students. Students in this ensemble will perform a varied repertoire of music, ranging from traditional to pop/broadway styles. Students in this choir perform at four concerts during the school year and may attend ISSMA Organizational Contest in April. There is no audition required to be in this ensemble.

Premium Blend

Prerequisite: Vocal Audition

Course Description:

Premium Blend is an audition-based advanced mixed ensemble that primarily performs vocal jazz music. They perform at all school concerts and also attend the ISSMA Jazz Contest every March. Students wanting to be in Premium Blend will audition in January before scheduling.

Intermediate Treble Choir

Prerequisite: Beginning Choir

Course Description:

Intermediate Treble Choir is a treble-voiced intermediate choral ensemble, composed of 10th-12th grade students. Students in this ensemble will perform a varied repertoire of music, ranging from traditional to pop/broadway styles. Students in this choir perform at four concerts during the school year and may attend ISSMA Organizational Contest in April. There is no audition required to be in this ensemble.

Ladies First

Prerequisite: Vocal/ Dance Audition

Course Description: Ladies First is an audition-based advanced treble show choir that primarily performs pop and Broadway music. They perform at all school concerts and may also compete in ISSMA festival contest in March. Students wanting to be in Ladies First will audition in January before scheduling.

Acoustic

Prerequisite: Vocal Audition

Course Description:

This course is designed for students interested in exploring the beauty of acoustic music through choral singing. Students will learn to harmonize, blend, and perform a variety of acoustic songs, including folk, a cappella, and contemporary acoustic music. The course will emphasize the importance of listening, blending, and creating a cohesive ensemble sound.
